Obituary
Yulice Darlene Austin, age 82, passed away December 27, 2019, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She was born February 23, 1937, to Luther and Maudie Acock in Jerico Springs, MO.

She grew up a little of everywhere. Her family followed the harvest from California to Washington.

In May 1955, she met and married the love of her life, James P. Austin. To this union four children were born: James P. Austin, Jr., Gregory Alan Austin, Sr., Raymond Luther Austin, and Darla Marie Austin Arlint. Also, a stepson, Michael Wayne Avery, was a part of this marriage.

Darlene traveled with her husband as he served in the Air Force. She had been in several foreign countries prior to his retirement in 1970. They then settled in Jerico Springs, MO. A few years later they moved to Texarkana, TX, needing to live in a dryer climate. Later she moved back to Missouri, settling again in Jerico Springs. When her health began to fail she moved to live with her daughter in Walker, MO, where she spent her remaining years.

Darlene had several accomplishments of her own. She got her real estate license in 1978. She also owned and operated a café. She was a good parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent. She would always stand by her kids no matter what the opposition.

She had a great faith in her Lord Jesus. She would always say, “I’m gonna fly not die.” She believed that the Lord was going to return for her someday.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Austin, Sr.; her parents, Maudie and Luther Acock; three sons: James P. Austin, Jr., Gregory Alan Austin, Sr., and Raymond Luther Austin; brother, Billy Jo Acock; and sister, Charlotte Ann Mobley.

She is survived by her daughter, Darla Arlint and husband Alen of Walker, MO; stepson, Michael Avery and wife Teresa of Michigan; sister, Cheryl McLaurin and husband Chuck of Cleo, SC; sister, Patricia Zazuliak and husband John of Jerico Springs, MO; grandchildren: Kristi Fugate and husband Kirk, David Austin and wife Terry, Gregory Austin and wife Stephanie, Jarred Austin, Stacey Turowski and husband Daniel, Michael Austin, Andrew Austin, Nick Avery, Dannielle McWilliams, Suzanne Prough and husband Greg, Jessica Dodd and husband Steven, Ashley Hardy and husband Harry Ramey, and Ryleigh Austin; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.

Funeral services for Darlene Austin were held on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at 2:00 P.M. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Burial followed in Greenfield Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
