Obituary
Wilmer Edwin “Ed” Alexander, age 88, of rural El Dorado Springs passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. Ed was born on March 27, 1931, in St Clair County to Wilber and Beulah Faye (Crocker) Alexander. Ed attended school at the Graham School near Tiffin, Mo until the 9th grade. After leaving school, he went to work with his parents and siblings on the family farm. In April, 1952, Ed was drafted to the United States Army and served as a cook until April, 1954, when he was discharged.

Ed married Betty Ann Hayter on August 2, 1952, in El Paso, Texas. They were married until she passed away on December 23, 1985. To this union one child was born, Kenneth Duane Alexander. Years after Betty’s passing, Ed met Susie Ann Woods and they were together for 26 years until her passing on March 12, 2017.

Ed’s life was dedicated to his family farm. He worked hard all his life and instilled the value of hard work in his children and grandchildren. He worked day in day out, side by side with his son, Kenny on the farm. Later in years his grandson, Jeremy joined the family farm and worked with Ed and Kenny as well. They had a dairy farm from the time he returned from the Army until 2018 when they finally sold the dairy herd. They had the last working dairy farm in St Clair County. Ed was actively working on the farm until his passing.

Ed was saved as young adult and his faith grew stronger through the years. He knew the value of prayer and a good relationship with the Lord. Ed’s greatest joy came in being a Papa to his five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding Ed in death were his parents, Wilber and Beulah Alexander; wife, Betty Alexander; brother and sister in law, Curtis and Winifred Alexander; sister and brother in law, Lois and Harold Hackleman; nephew, Randy Hackleman; and special close friend, Susie Woods.

Survivors include his son, Kenny Alexander and wife, Denise; sister Beverly (Bob) Herbst; granddaughters, Kendra (Brien) Bausch, Chastity (Mike) McCullick, Ashley (Adam) Richards; grandsons, Jeremy (Emmy) Alexander and Kaleb (Emily) Alexander; great-grandchildren, Randon Alexander, Kevin (Alecia) Alexander, Bradley McCullick, KayLynne McCullick, Gannon McCullick, Evelynn Richards; great-great grandson, James Alexander; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Funeral services for Ed were held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Batson officiating. Interment followed at El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Kenny Alexander, Jeremy Alexander, Randon Alexander, Kevin Alexander, Bradley McCullick and John Downing. Honorary pallbearers include: Destiny Alexander, KayLynne McCullick, Gannon McCullick, James Alexander and Evelynn Richards.
