Obituary
Mrs. Betty L. (Parkhurst) Preston, age 93, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away on October 12, 2019.

Betty was born on August 23, 1926, in Slick, OK, to Lawrence and Mary Parkhurst. On June 19, 1945, Betty married Marvin William “Tom” Preston. Together, they raised two sons: William “Ron” and Steve. They resided in Oklahoma before moving to El Dorado Springs in 1954. This home later became known best as “Granny and Grandpa’s”.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served on the Cedar County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Most of all, Betty was a very loving mother and grandmother that also could bring laughter to most situations. She was known for her recipes, most notably “Granny’s Famous Noodles”, and loved sewing, knitting, gardening, and sipping coffee with “the girls.” Each year, Betty and Tom traveled to south Texas for the winter. Although they were missed by family and friends back home, they made lasting friendships on their excursions and spent invaluable time together. Rarely did they return without a fantastic new story or gift from their adventures.

Betty loved her family time and loved to spend time with her siblings. When together, they really knew how to tell stories of days gone by and jokes that would get the room laughing.

Once Betty became a grandmother, she spent time spoiling those around here. Her grandchildren: Ashley, Blaine, Tyson, Steven, Ronee, and Zack, reaped the benefits of lifetime advice, excellent meals, cooking tips, and many desserts and sweets. Now this advice and recipes are being passed to her eight great-grandchildren: Avery, Aubrey, Alexa, Bodey, Isabella, Zoe, Preston, and Tre.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Preston; sons, Ron and Steve; her parents, Lawrence and Mary; sister, May Moffett; brother, Bill Parkhurst; and many friends. She is survived by her grandchildren: Ashley Rodgers and her husband, Adam, Blaine Preston and his wife, Misti, Ty Preston, Zach Preston, Ronee Hartl, and Steven Hartl and his wife, Sarah; her sisters, Dona Coates and Eddie Fritz; her great grandchildren: Avery Rodgers, Aubrey Rodgers, Alexa Rodgers, Bodey Preston, Isabella Preston, Zoe Hartl, Preston Hartl and Tre Hartl; Sandy Preston; and Meg and Steve Foerster.

Services for Betty Preston will be held on Friday, October 18, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at Bland-Hackman Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Following the service she will be laid to rest with Tom, Ron, and Steve at the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are: Blaine Preston, Adam Rodgers, Zach Preston, Steve Hartl, Don Grant and Gary Collins.
