Richard Lewis Rogers, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital. He departed this life surrounded by his family. Richard was born on June 19, 1951, to Tilmon and Myrlene (Geary) Rogers in Ohio County, Kentucky. He graduated high school on May 24, 1969, from Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Kentucky.
On March 30, 1984, Richard married Penny Lou Davis of El Dorado Springs and they were happily married until her unexpected passing on April 20, 2001. During his employment at Whiteman Air Force Base, he and Penny bought a home in Windsor, Missouri, where they raised their children. Richard served in the military for 22 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. During his time, he served as a security police supervisor, a missile site manager, attended college, and was deployed several times. He also worked as a supervisor at Hayes Wheels for several years before retiring. Years later, Richard settled in Warsaw, Missouri, and enjoyed the lake life.
Richard was very proud of his military career and he loved airplanes. He loved to tell stories of his Air Force days and enjoyed anything that had to do with the military. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, traveling, and painting. He was an excellent painter. He also enjoyed fishing and boating with his sons and grandsons, and loved his two dogs, Reese and Bouncer.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Penny; his parents; and a sister-in-law, Debbie.
Survivors include his two sons: Ricky and wife Tracey Rogers of Le Mars, Iowa, and Chase and wife Kristen Rogers of Marshall, Missouri; one brother, Lennie Rogers of Grant, Florida; five grandchildren: Allie Duncan, Brandon Rogers, Landon Rogers, Collin Rogers, and Remington Rogers; one great-grandson: Emerson; two nieces: Tiffany Youtzy and Tori Micheletti; and four great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Richard Rogers will be held on Monday morning, September 9, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel, with a visitation from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Interment will follow in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are: Lennie Rogers, Ricky Rogers, Chase Rogers, Brandon Rogers, Keith Geary, and William Craig.
