Kim Martins, age 59, of Wheatland, MO, passed away in her home at 9:36 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019, after battling with cancer. She was born March 21, 1960, in Kansas. She came to the Rife Foster Home for Handicapped Children in 1961, and later she was adopted in Kenneth M. and Mary Frances Rife. Her senior year in high school she was voted Miss Personality. She graduated from Turner High School in Turner, KS.
She worked at KCMO police department as dispatcher, then left there to go to college in Emporia. She met James H. Schlesener and was no longer interested in college. Later they married and had one son, James LeRoy Schlesener. After this marriage ended she moved to Wheatland, MO, with her son. She met Don Martins through one of her best friends, Tammie, and Don and Kim got married. She loved going on trips with him and being out on the water with her love. Kim has touched so many lives. Her positive attitude, her determination to be independent, to care for herself and her son was amazing. She was active in the Nazarene Church of Wheatland. She loved to sing, teach children’s church, and help anyone that she could. Her smile was very contagious. Despite her pain she concluded her fight with cancer with a smile on her face.
Kim is survived by her son, James (Jimmy) Schlesener and wife, Elizabeth, and five grandchildren; three step-children, Linda, Lora, and Kenny, and ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; mother, Mary Frances; brother, Kenneth E. Rife; aunt Corky Williams; and a number of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Martins; her dad, Kenneth M. Rife; and three very special foster brothers, Darryl Hand, Kyle Watkins, and Ronny.
