Melba Lois (Reeves) DeShazo, age 90, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away March 8, 2019, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She began life’s journey born to Alpha Beulah Caldwell and George Reeves on August 15, 1928, in Cedar County, MO.
She was united in marriage to Frank DeShazo on December 7, 1946. They were blessed with a son, Dwayne, and a daughter, Terry. Their family relocated to Lawrence, KS, where much of their lives were spent, before moving back to Missouri upon their retirement in 1991. She was affectionately known as Mrs. Smuckers locally, as she enjoyed making jams and jellies as gifts to her friends and family.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, of 68 years.
Surviving is her son, Dwayne DeShazo and wife, Karen, of Lincoln, MO; daughter, Terry Willis and husband, David, of Tonganoxie, KS; grandchildren: Devon DeShazo of Lawrence, KS; Shana Meadows of Sarasota, FL; Jeremy (Mooney) DeShazo and great-grandson Westley in Kansas. Also surviving are five siblings: Doris Jasnocha, Iona Turner, Carol Dodd, Mabel Fowler, and Paul Reeves, all of Missouri. Melba leaves behind a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Funeral services for Melba DeShazo were held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel with Rev. Brent Bland officiating. Burial followed in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
