Earl Jay Cook, age 80, of Bolivar, MO, departed this world on November 2, 2018. He was born February 21, 1938, in West Plains, MO, to E.J. and Velma (Jarrett) Cook.
Earl grew up in West Plains, MO, but moved to Kennewick, WA, during his high school years and graduated from Kennewick High School in 1956. He then moved back to the West Plains area and joined the Air Force.
After completing his time of service, he was united in marriage to Deanna Faye Romans on July 1, 1963, in Thayer, MO. Earl and Deanna were married 57 years at the time of his passing. They spent many hours together enjoying the area lakes and rivers, taking trips to Branson to see the shows, and especially enjoying going to Silver Dollar City. Later in life they enjoyed going to Springfield, MO, often, where they would eat out, and Deanna would shop while Earl visited all the local golf shops.
Earl worked for the Highway Department in Willow Springs, MO, before being called into the ministry. Earl attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO, and graduated with a Bachelor of Sacred Literature degree. He then spent the next 30 years as a Pastor in the Christian Church. Earl was the head minister in Hepler, KS, Oronogo, MO, West Burlington, IA, Gainsville, MO, Shreveport, LA, and at the Main Street Church of Christ in Yellville, AR, where he spent the final 14 years of his ministry.
Earl was an avid golfer, and played on his college golf team. He got great joy out of trading golf equipment and in playing golf with his son, Kevin. Earl also loved nature and walking by the river. He loved seeing eagles and would always share with his family his daily sightings of squirrels or rabbits at play.
Earl was also a talented singer and musician. He loved to play the guitar and had written many songs himself. He had performed with groups and quartets and often sang solos at church. He also enjoyed playing at family gatherings and at the holidays.
Earl spent his retirement years in Bull Shoals, AR. He later moved to Bolivar, MO, to be near his granddaughters. His granddaughters were the light of his life, and he was very proud of them and his son and daughter-in-law. He will be greatly missed by his family.
