Orville J. (O.J.) Hawkins, age 86, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO, on Monday, July 2, 2018. Orville was born August 18, 1931, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Charles and Ila (Hughes) Hawkins. In 1942 the family moved to the Jerico Springs, MO, area, where Orville graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1949.

Orville married Dorothy Hendrickson on December 26, 1951. They were married over 66 years at the time of his passing. To their union two sons were born.

He was in the U.S. Army for two years, spending the last year in Thule, Greenland, during the Korean Conflict. After discharge he was employed in Kansas City, then Indianapolis, returning to the Kansas City area in 1958, where they raised their sons. In 1986 he retired from the Federal Aviation Administration with over 30 years of service. Upon retirement, he and Dorothy returned to their farm in Jerico Springs. Although they thoroughly enjoyed the farm life, they spent most winters in Florida or Texas.

Orville was a member of the El Dorado Springs First Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for many years and helped with many projects while his health permitted. He was an active member of the Lions Club for several years and always a willing worker wherever he was needed.

Orville was very fond of family, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brother, sons and friends. A special highlight was his grandsons, and especially teaching them things about the farm.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; his sons, Steve Hawkins and wife, Patti; Mike Hawkins and wife Dale Ann; grandsons, Jason Hawkins, and Josh Hawkins and wife Liz; three great-grandchildren; brother, Howard Hawkins and wife Carol; a sister-in-law, Joan Stebbins; plus several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 16, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until service time at the church. Inurnment will be at the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
