Gary Louis Pennock, age 74, died at home on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Deepwater, MO.
Gary was born on November 16, 1943, in Champion, NY. He studied business at Kansas University in Lawrence, KS, after attending Pratt Community College in Pratt, KS. He has an eclectic work history, but spent the majority of his adult life in the electrical field working on production equipment at Eagle Gypsum Products in Medicine Lodge, KS and later working at Schreiber in Clinton, MO. He retired in 2008, then spent his time traveling, often to visit his children who live in Kansas, Colorado and Alabama, and working in his shop and tinkering with things in general.
It is impossible to sum up Gary’s life in a few short paragraphs. He always told it like he saw it. He shared his opinion, but didn’t hold yours against you if you disagreed. He lived without regrets and had a quiet confidence that served as a solid foundation for his family. Whether you were family or friend, you could always count on him to lend a hand. There was never a project too difficult or a problem too daunting to deter him. He loved finding quirky solutions to every day challenges.
Gary was a thoughtful creature of habit. This was evidenced by his morning coffee group at the Deepwater Hardware store. When the hardware store closed and reopened as a craft store, Amy continued to let the fellas meet among the ink stamps and scrap book paper. On Friday nights when he wasn’t visiting his kids out of town, you could always find him at Booker’s Auction in Clinton. He had a routine with his parents until they passed. Every other Sunday he would head to their house with a newspaper and fresh doughnuts.
Gary is survived by his significant other, Sue Griffitt; his three daughters: Deanna Greenwalt of Windsor, CO, Joyce Volk of Salina, KS and Marla (Scott) Wynn of Broomfield, CO; his grandchildren, Joshua (Melodie) Reich, Amanda Wingo, Sydney Reich, Shelby Greenwalt, Vanessa (Jonathan) Evans, Jake Greenwalt, Jared Ledezma, Marisa Ledezma, and Sue’s children Norman (Laura) Lesmeister, Dennis Lesmeister, Robbie (Amber) Lesmeister, and Aleisha Gann and her son, Joe. Gary is also survived by his five great-grandchildren and siblings, Wayne (Julie) Pennock and Renee (Alan) Eck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. Pennock and Beulah M. Pennock and his son-in-law, Richard Volk. In addition to his family, he leaves behind countless friends and acquaintances who benefited from his friendship and imagination.
Services will be held at Bland-Hackleman Funeral home at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018, followed by burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, both in El Dorado Springs, MO. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:00 AM until services start. Please join us for lunch at the Swopes Feed Store following the burial.
