Larry Leon Floyd, age 68, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away February 27, 2018. He was born December 17, 1949 to Cecil E. and Artie V. (Hicks) Floyd and was the youngest of twin sons. Larry spent his childhood in El Dorado Springs attending school, and graduating in 1967. Two weeks before graduation his twin brother Jerry and their mother died in a tragic car accident.
Larry was enrolled in School of the Ozarks where he attended and worked for two years. He then joined the Navy and spent most of his tour in Adak, Alaska. After an honorable discharge he settled in Illinois and worked in law enforcement, becoming police chief in Abingdon, IL. He also was in retail business in Walmart and Kmart before deciding to continue his education in Human Services. Moving to Fayetteville, AR, he attended the University of Arkansas and his degrees allowed him to be a registered nurse (some as a flight nurse) and then DFS Social Services.
Before his health failed with diabetes causing the loss of this leg, his personal interests were his private pilot license, bass tournament fishing, kayaking, and anything in the great outdoors. After coming back to his home town nursing home, Community Springs Healthcare, his computer was his “eyes” to the world. His highlight in the last year was being able to attend his 50th class reunion.
Larry and Gene talked many hours about family both past and present, and about his home town and changes going on that he was unable to see even though he was here. He valued every visitor who came to see him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil E. and Artie (Hicks) Floyd, twin brother, Jerry Floyd, grandparents, Art and Lizzie Hicks and D.E. “Dutch” and Lizzie Floyd.
Survivors include: one brother, Gene (Kay) Floyd of El Dorado Springs, MO; three nieces, Jeanne Janes, Jennifer Floyd and Sandy (Carlos) Cary, all of El Dorado Springs, MO; two nephews, Jason (Tammy) Floyd of El Dorado Springs, MO, and Bryan (Barb) Floyd of Joplin, MO; uncles and aunts, Jim Floyd and Lawrence Hicks of El Dorado Springs, MO, Tommy (Lois) Floyd of Fordland, MO, Donna Hicks of El Dorado Springs, MO, and Edna Floyd Cowan of Kansas City, MO; and many cousins and friends.
