China Gene Long, age 58, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, passed away at her home Thursday, February 22, 2018. China was born May 1, 1959, the only child of Patricia Anne (Hendren) and Lynn Milton Long. Most recently, she had lived in Lebanon and El Dorado Springs, MO for the past three years, moving from Georgia where she had been for several years. Previously she had lived in Joplin, MO, for seven years, moving away just one month before the devastating Joplin tornado. She has lived in Missouri, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.
China lived a uniquely blessed life, surviving homelessness several times, to living a life of relative luxury and back again, yet she tried to find something positive to thank God for every day. She was the type of person that would give you her last slice of bread, when she knew she didn’t get paid for another two weeks.
China was the proud mother to one beautiful daughter, Lynsea Anne Long, age 19, of Fayetteville, GA, who just started college in the fall. China was also a very involved “Aunt Na” to 15 month old Izadora (Izzy) and 3 year old Kiya, who adored her.
She has been an animal lover all her life and has had many fur babies; most recently loving her 15 year old Gold Tabby cat, named Honeybun, and co-parenting a flock of chickens with her cousin Terry. She loved spending time with the chickens, and had even named all of them.
China enjoyed a lifetime of meeting a diverse group of friends, many of whom she “adopted” as family and who live in several different states as well as around the world.
Preceding China in death were her parents, her beloved grandmother, Lois Hendren, and many fur babies.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynsea Long of Fayetteville, GA; her cousins, Terry and Michelle Jackson, Tabitha Draper, Benno Virnig of El Dorado Springs, MO; and Sherie Stock of Raymore, MO; and aunts and uncles, Darlene and Harold Jackson of Belton, MO, and Butch and Cynda Long of Lee’s Summit, MO.
Memorial services for China Long were held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel. Final disposition was cremation under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
