Laura L. Spencer, age 93, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs. Laura was born December 4, 1922, to Rolley Reuben and Caroline Windler Ensor in Walker, Missouri. She attended school at Walker and graduated with the Class of 1941.

Laura was married to Jimmie Spencer on October 16, 1941, and they were married for 59 years before Jimmie passed away on December 5, 2000. They were the parents of two children, Carolyn Sue and Terry Lee.

Laura was a member of First Christian Church and attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. Laura was also a member of Royal Neighbors since 1948. She was proud of the fact that she had four generations of family that are also Royal Neighbors and that she was a member for 68 years.

Laura enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and cooking good meals for her family. After she lost her eyesight to macular degeneration and was unable to crochet, quilt, or read recipes, she still cooked from memory. Each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild have quilts or afghans she made for them.

Laura and Jim enjoyed going to Texas every winter and going to flea markets and produce markets. Jim fished in the gulf, so they would always bring home fresh fish and produce to share with family. They enjoyed producing fresh vegetables from the garden and watermelon from the watermelon patch. They sold produce at their home for many years.

Both of her parents later remarried, so she gained seven more siblings, two sisters and five brothers.

In later years she learned that her mother Caroline was a rider on the Orphan Train from New York to Linn, MO. She was adopted from there by a family from Walker.

Preceding Laura in death were her husband, Jim; parents, Rolley and Caroline; sisters: Mary Ogle, Ruby Ensor, Marjorie Hansen, and Lilly Mae Veach; brothers: Clarence Ensor, Melvin Ensor, Ralph Ensor, David Ensor, and Bud Veach; and son-in-law, LeRoy Christy.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Christy; son, Terry and Cheryl Spencer; grandchildren: Tina and Roger Gilbert, April and Pete Marques, and Chay and Kristin Spencer; great-grandchildren: Justin Christy, twins Amanda and Hailey Gilbert, Zane Spencer, Jade Spencer, Karson Robb, and Teagan Robb; one brother, Marvin Ensor; and many nieces and nephews.

Iím sure that Jim was waiting on Mom to make a pan of biscuits and pie for him. She will be greatly missed.
