Paul Edward Carey, age 88, of rural Stockton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. Paul was born February 13, 1926, to Joseph and Esta (Ramey) Carey in Huntington, West Virginia.

From January, 1944, until June, 1946, Paul served in the United States Navy. He worked for 25 years in security for the Defense Department retiring in Dayton, Ohio.

Paul and his wife Pauline were the parents of two children: Connie and Donald. After Pauline’s passing, he moved to rural Stockton, MO, to live with his daughter Connie.

Hobbies included word puzzles and computer surfing, and he really enjoyed telling war stories. His favorite food was a cheeseburger.

Preceding him in death were: mother, Esta M. (Ramey) Carey; father, Joseph D. Carey; wife, Pauline R. Carey; and three sisters, Betty Jo Hunter, Mildred Cox, and Dorothy J. Whitt.

Survivors include: one daughter, Connie Moore and husband Jim of Stockton, Missouri; one son, Donald Carey of Moultrie, GA; six granddaughters: Beverly Hill of Ohio; Jamie Walker of Missouri; Shelley Ivester of Florida; Stephanie Carey of Georgia; Donaleigh Reed of Florida; and Tina Box of Florida; three grandsons: Bryan Moore of Florida; William Moore of Ohio; and Walter Moore of Florida; twenty-two great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Paul Carey will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Dodson officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow on Monday, August 11, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, with military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
