Dan H. Hayes, age 80, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, passed away August 28, 2013, peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born November 23, 1932, to Ernest and Ireane Hayes in Holden, Missouri. Raised on a farm, Dan played high school football. During that time Holden won the state title. He was known for his good humor, often a practical jokester. That quality never left him.
On November 29, 1953, Dan married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Hancock. Shortly after their marriage, Dan served in the Korean War. Upon his return, Dan and Margie moved to El Dorado Springs starting his lifelong work in the garment industry. This was a career choice that moved them from Missouri to Utah, Washington, and then back home to Missouri.
Pop had a love for the outdoors. While in Washington, he was in the Boy Scouts “Order of the Arrow” participating in many survival camping trips. Pop enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, or just listening to it rain. He shared that love with his children. He was a great story teller, a constant source of strength, and was our hero.
After retirement, some of the best times of his life came with his friend Leon Steward. The joy he had talking about their latest “adventure” always made you laugh.
Preceding Dan in death were his infant son Danny Joe; his parents Ernest and Ireane; his sister Kathryn; and his brother Cary.
Survivors include his sister Ruth Wagner of Texas; his beloved wife of 60 years, Margie of El Dorado Springs; son Russ Hayes and wife Susan of El Dorado Springs; daughter Sue Biddlecome of El Dorado Springs; daughter Lisa Harper and husband Dennis of Springfield, MO; daughter Pat Hayes of Springfield, MO; six grandchildren: Jeremy Hayes and wife Renea; David Hayes; Kalyn Carnahan and husband Kelly; Megan Biddlecome; Ashley Hopkins and husband Roby; and Garrik Harper and wife Misty; eight great-grandchildren: Branden, Derek, Gavin, Blake, Kelsi, Elliana, Kayliegh, and Derion.
