Rex Devoe Manes, age 70, of Walker, MO, passed away Tuesday morning April 16, 2013. Rex was born March 29, 1943, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Devoe and Lucille Manes. Rex attended El Dorado Springs High School and Santa Paula High School in Santa Paula, CA. He graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1961.
Rex served in the United States Marine Corps from August 1961 through December 1965. After 17 years of civilian life which included Civil Services, Rex joined the Army in 1982. Rex served with the Army until he retired in 1996. The accomplishments and medals he received in service to our country are too numerous to mention. In his many years of service he had tours in: Vietnam, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
His love for God and country was his motivation for remaining in the military and he instilled love for God and country into his children.
After retiring from 26 years in the military, he worked for Cottey College in Nevada, MO, with the maintenance plant.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Nevada, MO.
Rex had a passion for antique cars and old lanterns. He was a man of honor and integrity and a devoted husband and father.
Rex’s survivors include his wife Florene Manes; his son James Manes of Warrensburg, MO; three step sons: Mack Johnson of Davenport, IA, Dane Johnson of Erie, IL, and Chan Johnson of Davenport, IA; and step daughter Guen Davis of Nevada, MO. Also he was blessed with twelve step grand children.
Graveside services were held at Clintonville Cemetery on Friday, April 19, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. In honor of Rex Manes, military honors and Masonic rites were presented.
