Robert W. (Bob) Allen, 85, El Dorado Springs, passed away in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, following heart surgery. He was born March 3, 1927, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, to Alfred and Hattie Allen, and was the middle of nine children.
Bob grew up in Canada and moved to California in November of 1951. He got into the construction business and was involved in the building of everything from dog houses to shopping centers.
He purchased the former Jug Powers farm southeast of El Dorado Springs in 1991. He and Reta moved to the farm in September 1993. Bob spent the next 19 years creating his dream of a gentleman’s farm. The crown jewel was the pond he built six years ago. His favorite relaxation pastime was watching the comings and going of wildlife on the pond.
Bob turned the old farm house into a 2,500 sq. ft. showplace that was “home.” But if you wanted to find Bob during daylight hours, he was out in the field or in his fully equipped shop.
In recent years his constant companion was his Pug, Bear.
Bob’s daughters, Patti and Grace, from California, have been more than impressed by his many friends they have encountered in the El Dorado Springs community, friends who will miss him as much as they do.
Bob was preceded by his parents; one brother, Herb; and three sisters - Ruby, Irene and Marion.
He is survived by three brothers – Ted and John, in Canada; and Norm, in Arizona; and one sister, Lillian, in Canada; two daughters – Patti (Frank Brown) and Grace (Pat Grimes), of California; one son – Brian, California; three grandchildren – Tricia, in Texas, Robert, Portland, OR; and Alyissa, in California; and one great-granddaughter – Brooke, CA.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. Location will be announced later.
