Obituary Cecil Eugene (Gene) Floyd was born at home in Cedar County to Cecil Elmo and Artie Vaunita Hicks Floyd. He departed this life on February 7, 2023.
Gene grew up in El Dorado Springs, graduating in 1955. In High School, he enjoyed singing in a quartet and acting in such plays as Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. During his teens, he also worked as a soda jerk in the downtown pharmacy.
Gene married Kay (O’Connor) on October 8, 1963. They had three children: Jason, Jennifer, and Jeanne.
Gene and Kay owned and operated two businesses in El Dorado Springs; Montgomery Ward from 1965—1980 and Gene’s Movie Mart from 1991 until retirement. He loved this community and served it as Mayor for three terms (9 years) with Mayor Pro-tem Ed Morlan and the City Council. Gene was instrumental in the building of the Civic Center in 2005.
Gene attended the El Dorado Springs Church of God (Holiness) and reaffirmed his faith in 2019.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Artie, and brothers, Jerry and Larry.
Gene is survived by his wife Kay of the home, five children; Sandra and Carlos Cary, Bryan and Barbara Floyd, Jason, and Tammy Floyd, Jennifer Floyd and Jeanne Janes; grandchildren; Casey and Travis Allen, Becky and Jared Johnson, Brent Floyd, Davis Floyd, Paige Floyd, Olivia Shouse, Tyler and Tiffany Janes, Haden Janes and Riley Janes, five great-grandchildren, and his favorite dog Tootles.
