Obituary
Doris “Dody” Jean (Smiddy) Helms, 83, passed away quietly Friday, November 11, 2022 in her home in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She was born March 05, 1939 to Ruth (Greathouse) and John Smiddy in Kansas City, Missouri. Doris and her late husband moved to this area in 1984 to enjoy the small-town atmosphere. Before meeting her husband, she worked briefly as a bank cashier and waitress at a drug store in Kansas City then spent her life devoted to her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband- James “Jim” Edmond Helms, older sister- Joann Trigg, daughter-in-law Suzanne Helms (John’s wife) and son-in-law Edward Gettys. She is survived by her two sons- J D Helms of Collins and John Helms of Kansas City and daughter-Debbie Gettys of El Dorado Springs; JD’s sons-Timothy Helms and Sean Helms (his wife-Amber), and Debbie’s daughter- Elizabeth (Gettys) Jacobs (her husband-Mitchell); as well as Tim’s children- Christopher, Johnathan, and Nora; Sean’s children-Tarquin, Tycen, Kamicy, Jordan and Arabella, and Beth’s new son-Elijah.
Her cremains will be buried in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery next to her husband in a private family service when weather permits. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to local charities of your choice that support her favorite causes- animal welfare and the elderly.
