Shirley (Hess) Galloway, age 74, of Jerico Springs, Missouri, passed away December 21, 2011, at her home. She was born in Cedar County on April 1, 1937, the daughter of Alden and Melissa Hess, and grew up in El Dorado Springs. Shirley graduated from El Dorado Springs High School with the class of 1955. On May 10, 1955, she married Leroy Murrell and was blessed to be the mother of two sons, Steve and Wayne Murrell.
On December 26, 1984, Shirley married Jack Galloway and they had twelve wonderful years together before his passing.
Shirley was a precious mother to her two sons and her grandchildren. She was a good worker, working at Dunbrooke, Nelly Don, McDonalds, and then was a caregiver in several homes helping the sick in what ever way she could help. She and her sister took care of their 90-year old parents for several years. She always kept busy and was kind to everyone.
Thirteen years ago she met one of her best friends, Bryan Overcast, and they enjoyed many good times together, fishing, boating, camping, eating out and just being together.
On September 24, lying in her hospital bed, as Bro. James Coleman was praying, she asked the Lord to forgive her of all her sins, and raised her hand and said, “I want to go to heaven” and her next words were, “I believe Jesus” “He has saved me.” Such a wonderful smile came on her face. What a wonderful day.
Survivors include: her two sons, Steve Murrell and wife Donna of El Dorado Springs, and Wayne Murrell and wife Terry of Bedford, Texas; two grandsons: Nathan Murrell of El Dorado Springs, and Jeffery Murrell of Texas; one granddaughter, Savannah Murrell of Nevada, Missouri; two step-children: Jacque Bennett and Shawna Radford; one brother, Clarence Hess and wife Carol of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one sister, Joyce Coleman and husband James of El Dorado Springs; two sister-in-laws: Lucille McCallister and Irene Jackson of El Dorado Springs; one aunt, Alpha Schindler of El Dorado Springs; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
