Obituary Barbara Lynne Walsh was a hard-working, compassionate, fastidious educator for 44 years. She was born December 17th, 1955 to Quentin and Darlene (Carr) Walsh and went to work for God permanently on March 11th, 2021. She committed her entire life to caring for children; from her 4 younger sisters to a couple thousand students, to raising her son. A life-long Christian, Barbara devoted herself to spreading God’s love to the world in the way she saw best suited her talents. She was a member of First Christian Church in El Dorado Springs, MO for 50+ years and proudly served out the mission of FCC’s slogan, “A church with a heart, in the heart of El Dorado Springs.” She was active in various roles and committees, including the church board. Barb dedicated herself to pushing us all to realize that God loves everyone, no matter what. Teaching in every grade from Kindergarten through 8th, including two years in South America, and ending her career as a gifted educator and grant writer, Ms. Walsh implored students to find the best version of themselves. She was a 2001 Christa McAuliffe Fellow, awarded for a grant putting the first computer lab in the NEVC R-1 district. Her grant writing also put SMART boards in nearly every classroom in the El Do R-2 district, while various other grants have been awarded for the school and community of El Dorado totaling over $1.5 million.
Barb was sometimes hard for people to put into words. If you ever met her, you probably had to stop at some point and wonder why she was so zealous. If you spent much time with her, you know it’s because she had a heart that was larger than life. Some would say she was stubborn and strict, while countless others would say kind and caring. Truth is, Barbara was relentlessly in pursuit of a way to help those in need. If she hadn’t been in their shoes before, she’d had their child in class. She was deeply empathetic and dedicated herself to a life of service.
Preceding her in death was her father, Quentin Walsh of El Dorado Springs, MO and a great-nephew, Jeremy Walsh II, of Nevada, MO. Barbara is survived by her son, Jacob Walsh of Kansas City, MO; her mother, Darlene Walsh of El Dorado Springs, MO; four sisters: Sharon Bridges, Susan & Keith Mullins, Cindy & Scott Blanchard, and Rhonda & Dick Culbertson; 11 nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
Barbara enjoyed working “behind the scenes” and her last wishes reflect that.
