Samuel Delmont (Sam) Childs, age 84, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018. He was born on March 26, 1934, in China, Kennebec County, Maine, to Harlan and Glenna Childs.
As a child growing up in Maine, Sam was in charge of starting the fire in the stove at school. His job was to warm it up, but once, he took his job a little too seriously and caught the school on fire. Another time, he froze the top of his ear off while walking to school.
Later, he got frostbite while working on a job. He complained to his boss, who told him, “If you don’t like it, then leave.” Sam promptly moved to Florida, where he worked in maintenance for most of his life.
Eventually, Sam moved to El Dorado Springs, where some of his family lived. He enjoyed fixing clocks and listening to George Jones. He began attending First Assembly of God Church in 2008, where he was part of the Senior Choir. Before his health declined, Sam would often be found at the Senior Center during lunch. He loved telling stories about his life and family. He almost always greeted people with a broad smile on his face and a good story to tell.
Sam has four children: David, Patricia, Vanessa, Robert, and their families.
