In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mt. Vernon Cemetery and left at the funeral home.
Ellsworth Leroy Wegner, age 89, of rural Walker, MO, passed away June 16, 2017, at Community Springs Healthcare. He was born August 20, 1927, the second to the oldest of eight kids, to Earl and Louise Wegner in Wabasha County, MN.
He married Betty Vagt on January 11, 1946. They were married for 59 years before Betty’s passing in 2005. To this union four children were born.
Times were hard when he was growing up, but he always had time for family. Most of his life was spent as a farmer, back when farming was hard work. He moved to Missouri in January, 1977, and continued to work as a farmer. He also worked at a nearby sale barn.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Betty; his parents; an infant brother and sister.
Survivors included four daughters: Sharon (Robert) Reisdorf of Polo, MO; Bonnie (Gary) Badger of Walker, MO; Terri (Kevin) Riley of Granby, MO; and Kim Baker of El Dorado Springs, MO; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters: June Vagt of Mezzapa, MN; Bert (Donald) Duncan of Stewartville, MN; Phyllis Komisar of Simi Valley, CA; and Joyce McCormack of Rochester, MN; three sisters-in-law: Barb (Bob) Oestreich of Des Moines, WA; Nancy (John) O’Hanlon of Ramsey, MN; and Adeline Wegner of Rochester, MN.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Joe Trussell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
