James Vernon “Jim” Garrett, Sr., age 63, of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, passed away at Cedar County Memorial Hospital on Thursday morning, July 23, 2015. James was born November 9, 1951, in Orrick, Missouri.
James was preceded in death by his mother Florence Alleman; his father Leslie P. Garrett, Jr.; his son Leslie P. Garrett, III; and his stepson Roger W. Stone.
James married Carol Collinson on February 19, 1994. He leaves behind his wife Carol; four children: James V. Garrett, Jr. and wife Nicole; Kimberly R. Garrett; Lyndsay E. Garrett and her husband Tony; and Victor E. Stone and wife Julie; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother Edward R. Garrett and wife Kathy; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
James had a big heart and his great love for children brought him many others he considered his own, especially Joshua Baldwin and Kevin Garwood.
James served in the US Army from 1971 to 1974 and was a Black Beret. He worked in sheet metal fabrication and was an all around handyman. He loved to cook and fish.
Funeral services for James Garrett will be Monday, July 27, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel, with Rev. Ron Marsh officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
