Iva Ozella (Worthington) Chapman, age 97, formerly of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed from this life on June 14, 2015, just 10 days short of her 98th birthday. She was born June 24, 1917, to Oscar and Carrie (Bogan) Worthington at their farm home near Metz, Missouri. Iva attended Metz High School, graduating in 1933, at the age of fifteen. She continued to live with her parents until 1936, when she married Fred Chapman. Fred and Iva celebrated their 72nd anniversary before Fred’s passing in 2008. They had three daughters: Shirley, Evelyn, and Sharon.
Iva spent her life as a farmer’s wife in Bates and Vernon counties until 1979, when they moved to El Dorado Springs. She lived her last years at Truman Lake Manor in Lowry City, Missouri.
As a young woman, Iva came to know Jesus, her Savior. She lived out her commitment to Jesus in her home, church, and community. She and Fred were faithful members of Union Hall Baptist Church in El Dorado Springs until health no longer permitted them to attend. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Iva had the gift of encouragement, always looking for the best in any situation. When she was named Resident of the Month at Truman Lake Manor, it was written of her, “Since coming to TLM, Iva always has a reliable smile and an endless source of patience and positive thoughts.”
Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; four brothers: Thaddaeus, Roy, Earnest, and Clarence; and one sister, Viola. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Shirley and Leon Caskey, Evelyn and Larry Warden, and Sharon and Don Brenton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Iva Chapman will be held on Wednesday, June 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel with Don Brenton officiating.
