Nadene “Dene” Sue (Whitaker) O’Neal, age 95, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away in her home on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, 2015. Dene was born January 17, 1920, at Dutch Mills, Arkansas, the daughter of William “Tom” Whitaker and Katherine (Wall) Whitaker.

Dene married David “Dave” Benjamin O’Neal on June 12, 1937. To this union three children were born: Donald Gene, Kenneth Gerald, and Wanda Sue (O’Neal) Gilbert. Dave and Dene helped build and attended several churches; she was currently a member of the Church of God (Holiness). Dene loved teaching Sunday School, camping, gardening, cooking crafts, and spending time with family and friends.

Dene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dave (1997); infant son Donald Gene; son Gerald: two brothers: James and Carl; three sisters: Margurete (Sosby) Estep; Doris (Kenneth) Barton; and Betty O’Neal.

She is survived by her daughter Sue Gilbert and husband Lynn; four grandchildren: Rick O’Neal, Dawn Scruby, Kelly Gilbert, and Kasey Gilbert; and daughter-in-law Sandra O’Neal. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Helen Whitaker and Suzie Whitaker; numerous beloved great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Nadene O’Neal were held on Monday, June 15, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Bland-Hackleman Chapel with Bro. Rick O’Neal officiating. Music was provided by Rick O’Neal. Jack O’Neal read the obituary and led in the reciting of Psalm 23. Interment followed in Clintonville Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Bret Leaver, Benjamin Gilbert-Leaver, Dusty O’Neal, Jamie Jensen, Eugene Whitaker, and Paul David Faddis. Honorary pallbearers were: Lynn Gilbert, J.D. Jensen, Jack O’Neal, and Keith O’Neal.
