Obituary
Velma Ethel Briscoe, age 92, of rural Stockton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital. She was born April 2, 1919, to John and Edna (Morlan) Peoples in Newton County, Arkansas.

On September 13, 1941, Velma married Gordon Briscoe in Boone County, Arkansas. To this union two daughters were born: Drenda and Terry. Most of Velma and Gordonís married life was spent in Independence, Missouri. She worked at the Independence Sanitarium for 25 years, retiring in 1984. After retirement they moved to rural Stockton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Gordon; and one daughter, Terry.

Survivors include: one daughter, Drenda Ricketts and husband Harold of Stockton, Missouri; two grandchildren: Derrick Ricketts, and Shaun Moore and wife Misty; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Grace Moore; one sister, Ila Standridge of Seattle, Washington; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Velma Briscoe were held Monday, March 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Rev. Ron Foley officiated. Interment followed on Monday afternoon in Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence, Missouri, under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Harold Ricketts, Derrick Ricketts, Travis Bland and Randy Joe Bland.
